Heh, you like Edward Gorey too! Ask me what the inside of his house on Cape Cod looked like sometime. :)

(He was "Uncle Ted" to one of my best friends, and every year when my family took a vacation in Provincetown, my friend Ken and I would have lunch with Uncle Ted in Yarmouthport, at the restaurant he ate in every day. He was a wonderful and hilarious person. I miss him.)

I would expect him to have been wonderful and hilarious, actually. He is brilliant; I especially like that cartoon that says, "When she could bear it no longer, she escaped from the school at dawn." Hah--I'll have to post that on here sometime. Anyway, I found out earlier this year that he lived on Cape Cod until recently, and I was sad that I'd never get to meet him. He must be one of the most creative artists of his generation, though he's often not recognized that way.

I can't believe you really met him! This is like six degrees of separation; because you've met all these greats like Ginsberg and Gorey, I sort of feel like I'm half-meeting them through you. I think the fact that you guys called him "Uncle Ted" is the best part of that whole story. Did you grow up in Massachusetts?

Nope, I grew up in New York and New Jersey, but my family used to vacation in Provincetown every summer. We did this for over 40 years. My father died this year, and we'll be scattering his ashes there this August, which may be our last visit.
